In my linoprint titled “Out On Country, Near My Favourite Boab Tree, With My Friends & Family,” I capture the joy and connection I feel when I’m surrounded by the people I love and the land that holds our stories. The boab tree stands tall and proud in the centre, symbolizing strength, wisdom, and the deep roots of our culture.

I often go out bush with my elders, family members, and friends, and this lino print was inspired by one of those trips when we went to collect sugar bag (bush honey) from the ant hills.

The boab tree is very important to my people; its nuts provide us with bush tucker, and we prepare the most delicious, nourishing meals with its flesh and seeds. It’s also a powerful bush medicine and serves as a vital source of water and shade.

Each figure in the print represents a loved one. This one is me, along with Ravi (WAC manager) and her husband Shane, We go out often together with Moombie. I consider them both as the best of friends. The lines  in it is our shared experiences and the bonds that tie us together.

This artwork is not just a scene; it’s a celebration of our connection to Country and each other. It shows the beauty of our environment and the joy of being together in nature.

Through “Out On Country,” I honour my heritage and the love that surrounds me, embracing the spirit of togetherness that defines who we are.
