Surprising, funny, tragic and complex are just some of the ways to describe an exciting new exhibition of Aboriginal stories about station life and art-making.
The exhibition includes 13 short biographic films about some of the Kimberley’s most celebrated Aboriginal artists along with major art works depicting station life and station stories.
Warmun artists include Freddie Timms, Rammey Ramsey, Shirley Purdie, Mabel Juli and Patrick Mung Mung.
The films were produced as a collaboration between ABC Open, Kimberley Art Centres and family members of the artists as a way of reclaiming Aboriginal linkages to cattle station history in the Kimberley.
To launch the exhibition, an outdoor screening of the short films will be held at Waringarri Aboriginal Arts, followed by special performances from each of the Kimberley Art Centres sharing the unique songs and dance ceremonies that originated on the cattle stations of the East Kimberley.
