Ngarrgooroon Country – Sevanna Carrington
I’ve recreated Gully Betty’s painting. Black and White inspired by my Grandmother Sadie Carrington which is Betty Carrington’s eldest daughter. The background is inspired by my big sister April Nulgit by using red and yellow, making strokes across the board while the red and yellow ochres are still wet to make the colours blend.
Below is the story of this painting by Betty.
This is Ngarrgooroon Country. Now I am painting my brothers stories. I did these ones for the future, so the young ones can see the paintings from me and my brother. So they can take over, when I’m gone.
Betty painted this powerful homage to her brother, Hector Jandany. This significant new work continues the memory of this great Warmun elder, artist and eloquent ‘two-way’ teacher, who sadly passed away of old age in 2006.
