Kardiya & Manbem Working Together as ONE, by Serena Pinday
The 2-way learning & being is the Gija people’s message to the world and the way of life, This is a calling for Manbem (Black Fella) & Kardiya (White fella) working together as one.
This artwork, titled “Kardiya & Manbem Working Together as ONE,” is my first attempt at a lino print. It features no colours- just a strong black and white design that reflects the story it portrays.
The piece sends a powerful message about the importance of unity through two-way learning and being. In Gija Country, we recognize that both Manbem (Black fella) and Kardiya (White fella) possess invaluable knowledge and stories to share. It serves as a call for collaboration, a vision of harmony where we learn from one another and embrace our differences as strengths.
This work captures the connection between our peoples: the shared journey, respect for the land, and the dreams we hold for future generations. It reflects the magic that happens when we work together and embodies the hope for a better world for us all.
The Gija people believe in the power of connection, and this artwork reminds us that true understanding comes from listening and learning from each other. It calls for honouring diversity, embracing each one’s uniqueness, engaging in dialogue, and celebrating the beauty that emerges when we unite.
Together as one, we can create a brighter future for all.
