Joomooloony Mayibany / Boab Tree in Fruit / Adansonia gregorii
In this painting Shirley shows Joomooloony Mayibany which is commonly known as Boab with fruit or Adansonia Gregorii. For Gija the joomooloony tree represents fertility. It is also a great source of vitamin C. The green nuts can be cooked in the coals of a fire. When the nuts are dry the fruit inside can be eaten without cooking. The roots of the young joomooloony tree are also eaten (like a small carrot) or processed by hand to make string.
